Senior Project: Lorewich

For my senior project I designed Lorewich, a theme park land based on English folklore, which features reimagined takes on classic tales, as well as my own unique stories and characters. As this was a solo project, I got to be a creative director, illustrator, character designer, graphic designer, writer, anthropologist, and more!

Software: Illustrator, Photoshop (mockups), Procreate (concept drawings)

I began my project with extensive research, as I wanted to create a land that was culturally relevant. I worked to make sure everything in this project was deeply rooted in English folklore. The land is intended to resemble a historic, quaint English town, while featuring nods to modern life to further connect with guests and add humor and visual gags. The land features 2 food and beverage locations, 1 snack stand, 4 interactive facades, a gift shop, and attraction, many of which can be seen in the concept drawing above.

The land's attraction is Kip’s Quest, in which guests join Kip, a young wizard, and his sidekick, Tizzie Whizie, on an epic journey across England to rescue mythical misfits. The land enriches the attraction’s storyline by transporting guests to Lorewich, the thriving haven of those rescued. Guests exit the ride into Tizzie's Treasures, a gift shop themed after Kip's lovable sidekick.

The food and beverage locations are the Bubbling Brews, a full service dining location, and Filey Cakes, a sweet shop. The snack stand is called the Potion Emporium, to further push the fantastical theme.

The interactive facades are Ghemyln Gremlin Law, Pound and Pence Corner Shope, Gooseberry Garden Center, and Mythics United Travel Agency.

My favorite part of the project was creating visual props. These allowed for the culmination of all my prior research and story writing. For the Clairvoyant Courant newspaper, I meticulously wrote articles to weave together the attraction's storyline with the shops and characters in the surrounding land in a humorous way. If you have time, I recommend reading!

The props above, Sparkling Brew Cauldron Cleaner and Old Stinker Wolfsbane Antiseptic, would be found among the aisles of products visible in the window of the Pound and Pence Corner Shope facade. Making these props realistic to real world products, yet fantastical enough to fit the land I designed was a blast! The logo for the Mythical Beasts Dental Association was my favorite logo to design, I love the way even the most minute details can further immerse guests.
